Sempra LNG
Octávio Simões is vice president of Commercial Development
for Sempra LNG, which leads Sempra Energy’s efforts to develop, build
and operate liquefied natural gas receiving terminals.
In his current position, Simões is responsible for securing commercial
capacity contracts necessary for growth of Sempra LNG business and managing the
development of additional LNG facilities.
Currently Sempra LNG is developing the following LNG receipt terminals: Energía
Costa Azul, in Baja California, Mexico; Cameron LNG, near Hackberry, Louisiana;
and Port Arthur LNG, near Port Arthur, Texas. The $875 million Energía
Costa Azul project is under construction and will begin commercial operation
in early 2008. The $750 million Cameron LNG project is also under construction
and will begin commercial operation in late 2008. The Port Arthur LNG project
has received final FERC approval and will begin construction once commercial
arrangements are finalized.
Before he joined Sempra LNG, Simões served as vice president of Asset
Management for Sempra Generation. He was responsible for managing the power
plant fleet totaling 2,550 megawatts (MW).
Previously, Simões was vice president of Planning & Analysis for
Sempra Generation and was responsible for developing and acquiring generation
projects in the Gulf region and internationally.
Prior to that, Simões was project director for Sempra Generation for the
600 MW Termoeléctrica De Mexicali power project.
Prior to joining Sempra Energy, Simões served as senior program director
for Earth Tech and advised independent power producers on acquisitions of generation
assets and new project developments. In addition, Simões served
as director of generation projects for NEERI, an unregulated affiliate of New
England Electric System, and developed projects in the USA, Brazil, Hungary,
Poland and Portugal.
Simões holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from
the University of Massachusetts and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering
from Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a registered professional engineer
in Massachusetts. Simões is a native of Lisbon, Portugal, and is
married with one daughter.
