Safety on the job site is always the highest priority for Cameron LNG.
A new safety milestone was just reached in January, with the project surpassing
2.5 million labor hours without a lost time incident. Since construction
began in September 2005, an average of 650 highly skilled personnel have
worked at the Cameron LNG terminal site.
At the present time, more than 850 workers are on the job site focused
on various elements of construction including:
- Welding of inner liner and shell plates for the three LNG storage tanks.
- Construction on the north and south berthing areas on slope protection,
walkways and docking facilities.
- Setting major equipment including unloading arms, air compressors, and
submerged combustion vaporizers, which are used to heat the liquid natural
gas to transform it to a gaseous state.
“Our project team — which includes the workers and contractors
helping to construct the terminal — clearly recognize the benefits
of putting safety first,” says Alan Zachary, Cameron LNG construction
site manager. “You don’t reach this kind of goal without a commitment
from people at every level of the operation. We are thrilled to be celebrating
such a monumental milestone.” |
