Cameron LNG helps Hackberry splash into summer

Summer officially kicked into gear in Hackberry, La., on June 2 when friends and neighbors gathered for the second annual Hackberry Summer Splash, sponsored by Cameron LNG. Nearly 400 residents from the parish descended upon the Hackberry Recreation Center where they enjoyed free food, games, music and other fun activities.

“This is one of the highlights of the year for the community,” says Kelly Prasser, Sempra Energy’s regional manager of community relations.  “We are so proud to be a part of a tradition which brings the entire community together.”

This event also symbolizes the opening of the Hackberry Recreation Center pool for summer.  In addition to splashing around in the pool, local area children enjoyed a variety of activities including two inflatable bounce houses, a water slide, a quarterback toss and a pin the tail on the donkey game. A caricature artist, clown and face painter were also on hand to entertain participants while a local DJ kept the music playing all afternoon.

Last year’s inaugural event was kicked off by Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco and marked the reopening of the Recreation Center and pool after the devastation caused by Hurricane Rita.  Cameron LNG provided a grant, and the project’s construction team and contractors volunteered to help repair and reopen the facility.

“This event has become a high point in our community,” said Dwayne Sanner, director of the Hackberry Recreation Center.  “Thanks to Cameron LNG, the children and families of Hackberry and Cameron Parish have a new and improved place to cool off and have fun all summer long.”
