One million safe hours achieved

Cameron LNG construction workers recently reached the enviable goal of 1 million construction hours worked without a lost-time accident - a milestone few projects ever reach.

"Working safely is how we do business," says Alan Zachary, construction site manager. "All workers on our site are responsible not only for their safety, but also for those around them. It is a commitment we make every day."

Zachary acknowledges that this safety milestone is a direct result of the awareness program implemented by the project's construction contractor Aker Kvaerner/IHI.

Through the Cameron LNG Safety Awareness Program, the workforce focuses on important issues such as changing weather conditions, first aid treatment of injuries and preparing each employee for every phase of construction. The program is also designed to recognize and reward outstanding achievement and performance in safety by individuals, subcontractors and the rest of the work force.

"One of our top priorities is ensuring the welfare of our employees at Cameron LNG," says Zachary. "A safe work environment is not only part of our company culture, it's also the way we do business at the site day in and day out."
