Playground opens in Cameron

Hurricane Rita's devastation left no safe area for the children of Cameron Parish's east side to gather and play. In late February, work was completed on a new playground adjacent to the Cameron Library. Now, the Cameron Library's community park will provide that fun and safe play area.

"We've been working with the Cameron Library for the last six months on this project and it is exciting to see this park and playground open," says Kelly Prasser, Sempra Energy's regional manager of Corporate & Community Relations. "It provides a safe place for the children and has the added bonus of enhancing the area around the library."

On February 26, Cameron LNG terminal manager Randy Oakley joined parish and state officials to officially dedicate the park at a special ribbon-cutting ceremony.

"The partnership with the library on this project has been a priority for us," says Oakley. "We continue to look for projects that will help this community rebuild. It is wonderful to be able to support an initiative so meaningful to the residents of Cameron and the neighboring communities of the Parish."

Finishing touches, including landscaping the area, will be completed soon to provide the perfect place for children to play and to bring them closer to the library's many resources.

"It truly is an incredible project with so many fascinating elements," says Charlotte Trosclair, Cameron Parish Library director, who also serves as a member of the Cameron LNG Community Advisory Committee (CAC), and brought this opportunity to the committe for consideration last year. "We are excited about working closely with the team at Cameron LNG to make sure this is a successful project for both the company and the community. It's a win-win for all of us."

Other members of the Cameron LNG CAC include Sheron Faulk, Julie Trahan, Johnny Poole, Curtis Andrus, JoAnn LaBove and David Hebert.
