Ship berth safety validated

To better accommodate LNG tankers expected to berth at its terminal, Cameron LNG filed to amend its Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) permit in December 2004 in order to modify its marine facilities.  Federal and state regulatory agencies and local organizations examined the revisions, including the FERC, U.S. Coast Guard and the Lake Charles Pilots.  Extensive technical reviews and analysis were carried out in support of the marine facilities design by internationally recognized firms having significant experience in LNG marine terminal development.

Cameron LNG provided also provided the results to members of the Calcasieu River Waterway Harbor Safety Committee (HSC).  The HSC works with waterway shareholders and stakeholders to help ensure the port safety, security, efficiency and environmental aspects of the Calcasieu Ship Channel.

Over a year ago, the HSC began working with a marine consultant to conduct its own study of the Cameron LNG berth with the participation of the Lake Charles Pilots.  Cameron LNG and other HSC members observed these studies.

"This is the most studied berth along the Calcasieu,” said Joe Risse, Cameron LNG program director.  “We think the results of the HSC study are in keeping with the simulations and studies we’ve previously conducted for the Cameron LNG project, ensuring that we have a design that meets the existing high standards of safety within the LNG community.”

Cameron LNG encourages the public to review any studies made available by the HSC so that individuals can make their own assessment.
